Ingredients
🥐 1 tube store-bought cinnamon rolls (with cream cheese icing)
🍏 2 Granny Smith apples (peeled and diced small)
🧈 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
🍯 1/3 cup light brown sugar
🍚 1/4 cup granulated sugar
🌿 1 teaspoon cinnamon
🧂 1/8 teaspoon salt
🌽 1 tablespoon cornstarch
💧 2 tablespoons cold water
🍨 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
🧈 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
🌾 1/2 cup flour
🍚 1/4 cup granulated sugar
Instructions
1- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2- Prepare the Cinnamon Rolls:
- Remove the cinnamon rolls from the tube and place them on a baking tray.
- Save the icing for later.
- Set the cinnamon rolls aside.
3- Make the Apple Filling:
- Wash, peel, and dice the apples into small pieces.
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add the diced apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt to the skillet. Stir until the sugars dissolve. Cook for 4-5 minutes.
- In a small bowl, make a cornstarch slurry by whisking together the cornstarch and cold water.
- Pour this mixture over the apples and stir until it thickens (about 1 minute).
- Turn off the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
4- Prepare the Crumble Topping:
- In a bowl, combine the melted butter, flour, and granulated sugar until crumbly.
5- Assemble:
- Use the bottom of a 1/3 cup measuring cup to press down in the center of each cinnamon roll, creating a cavity.
- Spoon the apple filling evenly into each cavity.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the filled cinnamon rolls.
6- Bake:
- Place the tray in the oven and bake for 20-23 minutes, or until golden.
7- Finish:
- Remove the cinnamon rolls from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool.
- Drizzle the cream cheese icing over the top of each roll. If the icing is too thick, thin it out with a little heavy cream.
