Ingredients

For the Salisbury Steaks:
🥖 1 cup stuffing mix (or bread crumbs)
🥛 1 cup milk
🐄 1.5 pounds ground beef
🥚 1 egg
🧅 1 medium onion (minced)
🧄 4 cloves garlic (minced)
🥫 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
🧂 1/2 tablespoon salt
🌶️ 1/2 tablespoon black pepper
🧄 1 teaspoon garlic powder
🧅 1 teaspoon onion powder
🌶️ 1 teaspoon paprika
🫒 1/4 cup olive oil (for searing the steaks)

For the Mushroom Gravy:
🧅 1 large onion (sliced)
🍄 8 oz mushrooms (sliced)
🧄 4 cloves garlic (minced)
🌾 1/4 cup flour
🍗 2 cups chicken broth
🥫 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
🧂 1/2 teaspoon salt
🌶️ 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
🌿 1/2 teaspoon thyme (fresh or dried)

Instructions

1- Prepare the Stuffing Mix:

  • In a bowl, combine the stuffing mix with milk and let it sit for 5 minutes to allow the stuffing to absorb the milk.

2- Mix the Ingredients:

  • Add the ground beef, egg, minced onions and garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika to the stuffing mix.
  • Use your hands to mix until the ingredients are well combined.
  • Shape the mixture into 8 equal portions, pressing them firmly into circles or oval patties.

3- Cook the Steaks:

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the steaks to the hot oil and cook for 2 minutes on each side until browned. (They will still be raw inside.)
  • Remove the steaks from the skillet and set them aside. Cook in batches if necessary to avoid crowding the skillet.

4- Prepare the Gravy:

  • In the same skillet, add sliced onions and cook for 2 minutes until slightly translucent.
  • Add the mushrooms and cook for another 4-5 minutes until they turn golden.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables, stirring constantly for about 1 minute.

5- Finish the Gravy:

  • Slowly pour in the chicken broth and Worcestershire sauce, seasoning with salt, black pepper, and thyme.
  • Mix well until everything is combined and the mixture begins to simmer.

6- Combine Steaks with Gravy:

  • Return the steaks and any juices on the plate back to the skillet with gravy.
  • Continue to cook for 10-12 minutes, or until the gravy has thickened and the steaks are cooked through, stirring occasionally around the steaks.

7- Serve:

  • Serve the Salisbury steaks topped with the mushroom gravy over mashed potatoes. Pair with some steamed vegetables on the side for a complete meal.
