Ingredients
🍞 4 cups flour
🥛 1 cup whole milk (warmed, microwave for 1 minute)
🍂 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
🍬 1/4 cup sugar
🥚 2 eggs
🧂 2 teaspoons salt
🧈 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
🍯 1 tablespoon unsalted melted butter (for brushing the top of rolls once out of the oven)
For the Egg Wash:
🥚 1 egg
💧 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
1- Mix Ingredients:
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, salt, warm milk, and eggs.
2- Initial Mixing:
- Attach the dough hook to the mixer and set it to low speed.
- Mix until the flour is fully incorporated, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
3- Blend in Butter:
- Increase the mixer's speed to medium and beat for 2 minutes.
- Gradually add the softened butter and continue mixing on medium speed until the mixture is smooth and the butter is fully incorporated.
4- First Rise:
- Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl.
- Cover it with plastic wrap and a towel.
- Allow the dough to rise at room temperature until it has doubled in size, about 1 hour.
5- Deflate Dough:
- Gently deflate the risen dough by punching it down lightly.
6- Shape Rolls:
- Divide the dough into 8 to 12 equal pieces based on your preference.
- Roll each piece into a ball.
7- Second Rise:
- Place the balls into a lightly greased baking dish.
- Cover with a towel and let them rise for another hour at room temperature until they're puffy.
8- Preheat & Egg Wash:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, mix together the egg and water for the egg wash.
- Brush the tops of the rolls with this mixture.
9- Bake & Finish:
- Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- Once out of the oven, brush the hot rolls with melted butter and serve warm.
